The English Premier League heads towards spring with the battle for Uefa Champions League and Europa League places hotting up as the run-in approaches.

Manchester United take their tentatively improving EPL form to north west rivals Everton, who have shot up the table under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The pair meet on Sunday with United fifth in the standings following a 3-0 Old Trafford thumping of Watford last weekend.

Ancelotti’s side missed the chance to stay within two points of their visitors when they were pipped 3-2 by Arsenal last Sunday, leaving them 11th in the table but well within reach of the top six.

Tottenham and Wolves are also tangled up in the top half congestion ahead of their Sunday meeting in London, with Spurs a point and two places above their visitors in sixth going into the weekend.

Jose Mourinho’s side were beaten by London rivals Chelsea last time out, while the Black Country club recorded their first win in four over bottom club Norwich.

There are five Saturday Premier League fixtures, with champions-elect Liverpool taking their irrepressible title charge to Watford for the late kick off.

They do so having put on another late show on Monday night to beat West Ham 3-2 and equal Manchester City’s top flight record of 18 successive victories.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are a ridiculous 22 points clear at the top, needing a maximum of a further 12 to seal their first English title in 30 years.

The Hornets are deep in the relegation mire and start the weekend in 19th, with their initial improvement under new coach Nigel Pearson a distant memory.

David Moyes’ Hammers are no better off as they continue their battle against falling into the Championship when they face much-improved Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Bournemouth are another side in serious strife ahead of their home clash with Chelsea.

Frank Lampard’s Blues come into the game off the back of their derby success over Spurs, just about keeping their grip on fourth place, while the Cherries are two points above the drop zone.

Leicester are six points above the Londoners in third but need to regain their momentum sharpish following one win in their last five.

They kick off the weekend’s action on Friday night with a trip to play doomed Norwich at Carrow Road.

A rival clash between Brighton and Crystal Palace is the lunchtime game on Saturday, with both bumbling along in lower mid-table, keeping half an eye on the relegation battle just below.

Newcastle and Burnley meet at St James’ Park on Saturday with the pair going in opposite directions in the EPL.

The Toon Army are without a win in four and have lost their last two, while the Clarets are unbeaten in five and sitting pretty in tenth in the Premier League table.
