Watch: CIT robbery in Pretoria
Here’s what can be seen in the videos
Three videos were posted to Twitter, of the same incident, from different angles. In the first video, you can see a CIT van on the right waiting for the guard to return. To the left, you can see people passing by, going about their day.
Moments later, the CIT guard returns wheeling a bag of cash toward the van. A second later, two men with guns run toward the guard.
Before the men get to the guard, he drops the bag immediately, steps back and allows them to take it.
As the two men run in the opposite direction, one of the men shoots into the air, causing panic. It is then that everyone in the area disperses, including the CIT van.
The second and third videos include CCTV footage from the opposite direction where the robbers entered.
You can see three men running toward the camera, however, one of them stops just before the camera and waits for the other two men to return with the cash. It appears as though he is covering them during the incident.
In the third video, the footage was slowed down, to be able to see the three men more clearly.
Twitter reactions to CIT robbery
Some Twitter users were of the belief that the CIT guard was in on the robbery, saying that it looked orchestrated. They found it strange that the guard gave up the cash so quickly without trying to fight the robbers off.
“This looks like a plan… Look how he just leaves the cash and backs off,” said one user.
“This is an inside job. I’ve seen their protocol in action. One person collecting, two on guard and ready with automatic rifles,” said another.
“This looks like it was planned. Normally there is a guard escorting the one carrying money and two on the side watching. Why do they drive off? Suka fire them!!”

Other users defended the guard’s actions, saying that he was more worried about his life and rightfully so.
“This man is more worried about getting home to his family, the money is insured, great of him to surrender the money than his life,”
Twitter user
“He actually did what every other should do, they can’t be dying for this money! That’s an ambush, two guys both wielding guns! Money will never be more important than his life”
