KZN cop to appear in court for allegedly shooting two brothers

A 38-year-old KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police officer will appear in court on Tuesday 17 December 2019, for allegedly shooting two brothers during an argument at the weekend.

According to the SowetanLive, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), the police constable, based at the operational response service (ORS) in Richards Bay, was off-duty when he allegedly shot and killed two brothers, aged 24 and 32, on Saturday 14 December 2019.

Details of the alleged shooting

The incident happened at around 9:00 in the morning in the Nseleni area, in northern KZN.

“It is alleged that the constable had an argument with the 24-year-old male about the level of noise that came from his house throughout the night. Further allegations are that the deceased responded by assaulting the constable with his hands, and the two parties separated,” said Ipid.

“At a later stage, the constable walked to the Nseleni satellite police station to open an assault case against the deceased. Before reaching the satellite police station, the constable met up with the deceased and his 32-year-old brother. Once again, the argument started between the constable and the two brothers,” Ipid added.

It was during this argument that the cop allegedly shot and killed the two men.

Cop arrested for alleged shooting

The constable was arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

He will appear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 17 December 2019.

TheSouthAfrican.com attempted to make contact with Ipid for comment but were unsuccessful in reaching them.

Cop on cop killing in separate incident

As reported on by TheSouthAfrican.com, two South African Police officers who tried to stop two of their colleagues from committing a post office robbery were left with no choice but to fatally shoot the officials on Thursday 3 October 2019 in Greytown KZN.

Serving as part of a cross-team operation, which involved Crime Intelligence, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) and the National Intervention Unit – the law-abiding officers were alerted to the robbery and reacted swiftly. They tried to flag down the vehicle of interest, but instead, they were met with a hail of bullets.

After returning fire, the thugs were picked off by their opponents. Once the patrol vehicle used in the robbery had come to a stop, SAPS discovered several implements used for heists – including jack-hammers and angle-grinders – in the back, along with wads of dye-stained stacks of cash.
