Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow Level 1 warning for wind resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas subsiding in the afternoon.
  2. Yellow Level 4 of disruptive accumulated rainfall expected over the eastern Free State, south and extreme western parts of KwaZulu-Natal as well as the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape from Thursday until Saturday, resulting in flooding of roads and informal settlement, disruption to essential services (electricity, communications), N3 national road affected leading to increase travel time and accidents.
  3. Yellow Level 2 WARNING of severe thunderstorms with hail and strong damaging wind expected over the northern interior of the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, north-east and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, western half of both North-West and Free State, resulting in heavy downpours leading to localized flooding in informal settlements, low lying roads and bridges, localized structural damage to homes and car, falling trees blocking minor roads.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern interior of the Northern Cape as well as the western parts of Limpopo province.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the southern Highveld in the morning. It will become partly cloudy in places from the afternoon.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with drizzle in the east in the morning, becoming partly cloudy over the central and western parts.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Fine along the coast, otherwise partly and cool to warm but cloudy in the east with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Fine and warm in the west and south-west otherwise cloudy and cool in the east and central parts with morning and evening isolated rain and showers along the south-coast.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be strong easterly to south-easterly but moderate to fresh southerly in the west.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: High.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Partly cloudy to cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain over the southern parts, clearing over the interior late midday.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly.

The Eastern half Temperature: Warm in the extreme north, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be strong easterly, becoming north-easterly in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool but cold in places in the west. Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected but scattered in the north.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly becoming north-easterly from the south by mid morning and becoming strong in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High.
