Breaking: Jacob Zuma ‘admitted to hospital’, DCS confirms

Jacob Zuma has been taken to an outside hospital for further medical observation, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed. The 79-year-old is currently residing in Estcourt Prison.

Why has Jacob Zuma gone to hospital?

According to the Constitution, uBaba and any other prisoners are guaranteed the right to medical treatment. Following a routine medical observation, doctors decided it was for the best if Jacob Zuma was taken in for further care.

“Everyone who is detained, including every sentenced prisoner, has the right to conditions of detention that are consistent with human dignity, including at least exercise and provision of adequate accommodation and medical treatment.”

DCS say former president is ‘under observation’

JZ himself has an important court case coming up next week – one that he fought to attend in-person. The severity of his condition remains concealed, but he will now be treated by the Military Health Services during his stay in hospital.

“The DCS can confirm that Former President Jacob Zuma has today, Friday 6 August, been admitted to hospital for medical observation. As a former president, the healthcare needs of Mr. Zuma require the involvement of the SA Military Health Services. This has been the case since his admission at Estcourt Correctional Centre.”

What is Jacob Zuma’s illness?

Jacob Zuma’s health issues have presented a mystery for the South African public over the last few years. Msholozi claims to have been the victim of an attempted poisoning, of which he is still allegedly feeling the after-effects.

However, the former president was also jetting off to Cuba for his medical treatment, before the pandemic kicked off. Zuma has blamed his ailments for missing vital court dates and Commission appearances – the latter of which landed him with a 15-month jail sentence, handed down to him at the end of June 2021.
