Nadal insists he is on track for 14th Roland Garros title despite recent lackluster form

Rafael Nadal has now faced two early exits in his recent clay-court Masters tournaments but insists he is on track to win his 14th Roland Garros title.

Nadal faced a shock 6-4, 6-4 loss to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in last night’s Madrid Open quarter-finals.

This follows last month’s shock exit in the Monte Carlo quarter-finals. This is his second exit at this stage of clay-court Masters – where he has been so consistent for so many years – winning 13 previous French Open titles!

Although he recently won in Barcelona, it was far from convincing.

He needed to save a championship point to scrape a close encounter with Stefanos Tsitsipas. Securing his 12th Barcelona Open with a thrilling 6-4. 6-7 (6/8), 7-5 win.

Despite Nadal being far from convincing in recent tournaments, he insists there are plenty of positives.

It’s a week there were a lot of positive things. I’m leaving Madrid with good feelings in general,”El Nino‘ stated.

He will use this loss as motivation to aid his success with his vision and goal clear – winning his record 14th Roland Garros! If he manages to achieve this it would be a record-setting 21st Major in the French capital city (Paris).

The tournament will start in Paris on the 30 May and ends on 13 June 2021.

It comprises of singles, doubles and mixed-doubles play. The tournament is played on clay courts, which is Nadal’s strong point as his record 13 previous titles prove!

“Now what is the goal before Roland Garros? Go to Rome and win, that’s all,” stated Nadal.
