Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt told to focus on Champions League

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila coach Dylan Kerr has offered advice to Kaizer Chiefs mentor Gavin Hunt.

Kerr believes that Kaizer Chiefs should focus on their Champions League campaign, giving that priority over the league.

Kerr tells Kaizer Chiefs to focus on Champions League

TTM handed Kaizer Chiefs another setback in their pursuit of a top eight finish earlier this week. The 2-1 defeat left Amakhosi ninth heading into the weekend, three points off eighth place TS Galaxy.

Galaxy face Sundowns on Sunday while Kaizer Chiefs prepare for another Soweto Derby on Wednesday. Three days after they face Swallows, Chiefs will host Simba in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Hunt is unlikely to be able to play his best XI in both matches and Kerr has advised him to fry the bigger fish as it were.

“I feel for him [Gavin Hunt], he has a very tough job. He has got lot of games. He has got CAF which I think is more important now than trying to get into the top eight,” said Kerr.

Hunt and company backed to progress

Kerr backed Hunt and Kaizer Chiefs to progress at the expense of the Tanzanian club, but said that it won’t be easy, especially given Amakhosi’s goalkeeping crisis.

“I believe they will beat Simba but [Gavin Hunt] has a tough call [because] one player is suspended. Now with goalkeepers being injured, he has got a tough call,” Kerr added.

This term’s effort marks the first time that Kaizer Chiefs have progressed beyond the Caf Champions League group stages, and also the first time that two South African teams have made it this far in continental competition.

Simba come into the tie sporting a commanding advantage in the Tanzanian Premier League but face the prospect of playing three times in a week and making the trip down to South Africa.
