Kaizer Chiefs latest | Stuart Baxter the man to replace Gavin Hunt?

Stuart Baxter appears to be edging to closer to a sensational return to Naturena after Gavin Hunt was fired by Kaizer Chiefs on Friday night.

Over two weeks ago, Baxter was reported to be in talks with Amakhosi over a possible return as Hunt’s future continued to be the subject of speculation.

Baxter then flew out of the country when those reports emerged but he’s believed to be returning to the country some time next week.

As things stand, Baxter is not contracted to any club after being sacked by Indian Super League club Odisha FC for his reckless rape comments.

Should Baxter indeed replace Hunt as head coach of Amakhosi, he would be returning to a territory he knows and understands very well.

Baxter coached Chiefs for three seasons between 2012 and 2015 – and at the time, the Soweto giants were dominant in the domestic league.

He won four major trophies with Chiefs, including two league titles, the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8 title.

Hunt’s firing and Baxter’s possible return is an indication that Chiefs want to reclaim their old glory days after six barren years.
