Mamelodi Sundowns target Thabiso Kutumela for next season’s title defence
The champions of the inaugural DStv Premiership League title Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly ready to make a move for Maritzburg United forward Thabiso Kutumela.
Kutumela has been a shining light for Maritzburg United
Kutumela has been a revelation for Maritzburg as far back as the previous season, with his form then, even resulting in a Bafana Bafana call up. This season, he has taken his game to yet another level for the Kwazulu-Natal side, having scored 12 league goals and 14 in all competitions this season. That form seems to not have gone unnoticed as it has resulted in continued national team call ups.
Beyond the interest from the national team coaching staff, it is now believed that Kutumela has attracted the interests of newly crowned DStv Premiership League title winners Sundowns, who are ready to bring him to Chloorkop, ahead of a title defence next season. The Brazilians, themselves are planning a squad revamp for next season with the belief being that the current squad has reached the end of its cycle.
Sundowns have plans to clear out squad deadwood to make way
A source speaking to The Citizen suggested that some of the forwards they plan to offload are in order to accommodate Kutumela, who was initially targeting a move abroad.
“He has had a promising move overseas and it is where his heart is right now. But Sundowns are also preparing an offer for him. They will do a barter deal with Aubrey Ngoma and Mauricio Affonso plus some cash going the other way.
“Maritzburg and Sundowns have developed a good transfer relationship over the past few years and I think this one will also go smoothly,” said the source

They hope to accompany the former Bafana Bafana internationals with the likes of George Maluleka, Bangaly Soumahore as well as find loan deals for junior internationals Jordy February and Grant Magerman.
