BREAKING NEWS: Kaizer Chiefs sack Gavin Hunt!

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the sacking of coach Gavin Hunt with immediate effect following a string of poor results.

Amakhosi took to their social media platforms to confirm the departure of Hunt, saying the coach’s contract had been terminated.

Hunt’s contract was set to come to an end on 30 June 2023.

Furthermore, Chiefs revealed that Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard will be in charge of the senior team.

Hunt had been in charge of Chiefs for eight months after being appointed as head coach in November 2020.

His first season with Chiefs was bittersweet as the club did terribly on the domestic front but rose to the occasion in the CAF Champions League.

Hunt is the first coach to guide Chiefs to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League where they club is guaranteed R12.4 million in prize money for their efforts no matter what happens against Wydad Athletic Club.

While he was unable to make any new signings due to Amakhosi’s transfer ban, Hunt inherited a squad that finished second on the log.

Under his watch, Chiefs managed just six league wins and suffered 10 defeats to find themselves 11th on the PSL log.

As things stand, Chiefs are in danger of missing out on next season’s MTN8 competition while relegation cannot completely been ruled out as the Soweto giants are five points above the relegation zone.

Overall, Hunt was in charge of 44 competitive matches for Chiefs during his short spell.

He won 12, drew 17 and lost 15 of those 44 matches while in charge of Chiefs.

The straw that broke the camel’s back was Chiefs’ 2-1 loss to bottom-placed Black Leopards in Thohoyandou on Tuesday.
