Election Results: ANC, DA duelling in metros

The ANC look set to shed voters across the country, and they’ve only secured 45% of the vote so far. The DA will be quietly pleased with their performance, tracking at 26% of the electorate.

The EFF has just 8% of the national total, but it’s still early days yet. The 2021 Local Elections have been marred by a significantly low voter turnout, so we can expect plenty of twists and turns as more votes filter through. Below, we’ve produced a quick round-up of all the biggest headlines overnight. Here’s what you should know…

Latest Election Results for South Africa – main updates and developments for Tuesday 2 November

  • The ANC lead in eight of the nine provinces, with the DA out in front in the Western Cape.
  • Early projections show that the DA will retain Cape Town – but could lose up to 8% of its support here.
  • The DA has opened up an early lead in Nelson Mandela Bay, as their 41% bests the ANC’s 38%.
  • Indeed, the Blues also have an advantage in Tshwane, putting an 11% gap between themselves and the ANC
  • Keep an eye out for Ekurhuleni, too. The DA also lead by 7% here – and may steal the metro from the ANC
  • The DA and ANC are, as of 7:30 on Tuesday, nearly neck and neck in Johannesburg, with the ANC *just* out in front.
  • The EFF has solidified itself as the third-biggest party in six provinces – but they’re yet to make a significant impact.
  • And finally, ActionSA has received a huge number of votes in Gauteng, marking a brilliant Election debut for the party. They won their first-ever voting district in Soweto, snatching Protea Glen off the ANC.
