Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

Orange level 6: Warning for severe thunderstorms which could result in heavy downpours leading to flooding, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning resulting in damage or loss of infrastructure, property, flooding of roads, settlements, low-lying areas and difficulty in driving expected over the eastern parts of Limpopo and the north-eastern parts of Mpumalanga.

Temperature and UVB forecast

Gauteng:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated afternoon thundershowers and showers in the north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the north-east, where it will be warm.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the extreme north-east.

Free State:

Temperature: Cloudy in the east with morning fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south and the extreme east.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Fine in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cool but warm in the north-east. 

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate north-westerly, becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cool but warm in places over the northern parts. It will be cloudy with light rain over the south-western parts in the morning, spreading along the south coast by the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly reaching strong in places along the south coast in the morning, becoming light to moderate southerly to southeasterly north of Cape Columbine by the evening.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Very High

Eastern Cape:

The Western half –Cloudy in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain, but thundershowers in the north east. 

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong east of Oyster Bay.

The Eastern half – Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the south-west. It will become partly cloudy from the west in the afternoon.  

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, reaching strong.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Fine to partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north-east, becoming cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly in the north at first, otherwise south-westerly. 

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.
