Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in localized flash-flooding and short term disruption to essential services are expected over the western, central and southern parts of the Northern Cape, as well as the Central and Little Karoo, Garden Route, Cape Winelands and the Overberg of the Western Cape.
  2. Orange level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms resulting in flash flooding and damages to infrastructure are expected over the Little Karoo, Laingsburg, Mossel Bay, Hessequa and Swellendam Municipalities of theWestern Cape.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

Gauteng:

Temperature: Fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the evening.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Hot in the Lowveld, otherwise fine and warm becoming partly cloudy on the Highveld from the afternoon.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Fine and warm.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated thundershowers in the west in the evening.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers over the western parts.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread over the central, southern and northern parts. It will be cool along the coast.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, becoming cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers from the afternoon except along the south-west coast but widespread over the central and eastern parts. It will be hot over the eastern interior.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Partly cloudy in the west, otherwise fine and hot, but warm along the coast. It will become cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers from the afternoon.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming westerly west of Cape St Francis late afternoon.

The Eastern half Temperature: Partly cloudy in places in the morning, otherwise fine and warm, but hot over the southern interior. It will become cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon, but scattered in the west.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh to strong in the afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Morning mist patches over the eastern interior, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Extreme.
