R350 Grant latest: Time is running out to collect ‘outstanding payments’
SASSA beneficiaries have been warned to act fast if they want to collect their R350 grant payments from the previous cycle – and any funds that remain unclaimed at the end of the month will be returned to the state.
When can I collect my R350 grant payments?
SASSA is set to enter its third phase of the R350 grant, which was introduced at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. New payments will be made ‘before the start of September’. However, applicants from previous cycles have failed to collect monies paid into their accounts. Now, the agency has a firm warning for these dawdlers.
Use it, or lose it…
“Uncollected special Covid-19 SRD grants from the previous cycle must be collected by Tuesday 31 August 2021. Some approved applicants still need to collect their grants.”
“Any R350 grant not collected by Tuesday 31 August will be sent back to the National Treasury, to fund other government priorities. Enquiries can be made on 0800 60 10 11 to confirm if there are any outstanding balances to be claimed.”

SASSA overwhelmed by huge demand
It is notoriously difficult to get SASSA to tell us exactly when the R350 grant will be paid out each month. This time around, nothing has changed. Successful remain in the dark about when they will receive their handouts, and have to make do with a vague direction pushing them back ‘to the end of the month’.
Earlier in August, online applications opened for the reintroduced R350 grant – and over five million people registered their interest after the first weekend. The surge in traffic ended up crashing the SASSA website, as demand for the financial safety net reached fever pitch. We are expecting an update from the Social Development Department soon.
