Sipho Mbule gives hint of where he will be playing next season amid Kaizer Chiefs speculation

Supersport United midfielder Sipho Mbule has given a strong hint of where he will be playing his football next season, amid rife speculation he could be heading to Kaizer Chiefs.

Mbule’s future seems to be the subject of new speculation with every passing week, with both DStv Premiership giants Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly interested in his services.

Chiefs and Sundowns keep exchanging the lead in Mbule chase

Over the last three to four months, both Chiefs and Sundowns have been reported to have either taken the lead on the other, or being on the verge of announcing the signing of Mbule. However, as it stands the mercurial midfielder is still a Supersport player and if the latest reports are anything to go by, it doesn’t look like that will change any time soon.

Mbule who was initially selected as part of the South Africa u23 Olympic squad, was forced to withdraw from the side, citing “medical reasons”. Although a huge blow to the player and for Supersport who were, together with his agent, hoping he could attract attention from overseas clubs, it proved to be a huge boost for the likes of Chiefs and Sundowns.

Advantage PSL giants?

It seemed as if Mbule had now been limited to the two clubs as an option away from Supersport, and it seemed like it would be Chiefs who would take advantage of this “lucky break”. Perhaps that would appear a big surprise as just a month ago it seemed like Sundowns who had long been thought to have usurped Chiefs in the race to the player, were ready to announce the deal.

However, all the right noises and speculation had been coming from the Chiefs corner and it had been coming in thick and fast, almost out of nowhere. But both Supersport and Mbule’s agent have come out to vehemently deny the recent speculation that a deal was close with Chiefs, with his agent going as far as saying he isn’t signing for either of Chiefs or Sundowns as it stands.

Player reveals loyalty to Supersport

Now Mbule has, himself spoken out about his future, answering a fan on an Instagram live video he didn’t save, who had bluntly asked “Is it true that you are heading to Naturena? (Chiefs training ground)”. The 23-year-old simply replied “My blood is blue my brother, my blood is blue”. Which seemed to hint at his loyalty to his current club Supersport ahead of the coming season.

It is worth noting, however, that it was very unlikely that Mbule or any other player would confirm their move before the two clubs in question, in this case Supersport and Chiefs had announced that a deal had been in place. It now remains to be seen whether Mbule is indeed a man of his word, or his answers were all part of the smoke and mirrors.
