Stuart Baxter affect? Former player reportedly wants a reunion with his former coach at Kaizer Chiefs

Marumo Gallants forward Thabo Mnyamane is reportedly keen on a reunion with his former coach at Supersport United, Stuart Baxter at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of this coming DStv Premiership season.

Mnyamane was signed by Baxter during his tenure at Supersport and looked like a shrewd piece of business from the Brit, as the left-footed wizard did not take long to show his abilities at Matsatsantsa A Pitori.

Mnyamane did well under Baxter at Supersport United

As soon as Baxter left the club, it seemed as if he had suddenly left with Mnyamane’s form. The lanky star struggled to regather his form at the club and was subsequently released at the start of the previous season where he joined Gallants.

He has rediscovered his form at Gallants

Mnyamane has done well to rediscover his form at Gallants and is thought to be very content with life at the Nedbank Cup champions, but he is also thought to be open to a move to a big club. According to The Citizen sources, his preferred choice of a big club would be Chiefs, where a reunion with Baxter has proven an enticing proposition.

“He is happy where he is and has found his form again after an unsuccessful stay at SuperSport. He is a good player and wants to prove himself with a big team. He was once said to be on Orlando Pirates’ wanted list but nothing came off that and he ended up at SuperSport.

Mnyamane is believed to be open to joining Baxter at Chiefs

“He is now open to a move to Kaizer Chiefs who I believe have also asked about his situation and availability. It could be that both sides want each other and a deal could soon be struck,” said a source close to the player.

A part from help Gallant win the Nedbank Cup for the first time in the club’s history under the previous name Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, Mnyamane also played a crucial role in ensuring the team’s survival from relegation, even going as far as avoiding the promotion/relegation playoffs despite being hotly tipped for the drop.

Is he a Chiefs target though?

But Mnyamane is now 30-years old and it remains to be seen if he is a target for Baxter or if his signing will be seen as one that makes sense to Chiefs in the long run.

As it stands Chiefs have only recruited former Bidvest Wits and Swallows FC winger Kgoagelo Sekgota, another left-footed forward, and it is believed that Baxter and the club are still in the market trying to add more firepower to the Soweto giants. Whether Mnyamane is one of those players being discussed by the club’s management remains to be seen.

Watch the space.
