Just in: Mango Airlines SUSPENDS ALL FLIGHTS on Wednesday

The accelerated demise of Mango Airlines looks to be in full swing on Wednesday, after a whole host of flights were either delayed significantly or cancelled without warning this morning. The company has scrapped all flight bookings from May onwards, and it now looks as if fulfilling its obligations for this month will prove to be a significant challenge.

At 8:40 on 28 April, ALL FLIGHTS were suspended by the domestic carrier.

Mango Airlines delays, cancels flights on Wednesday 28 April

Flights were simply removed from schedules earlier today, leaving a number of travellers perplexed and annoyed. Social media became a hub for those affected to vent their frustrations, as the complaints piled up on Wednesday:

Mango Airlines ‘struggling to keep planes flying’

Mango Airlines did issue an update for customers earlier this morning, but one gets the impression this will provide little consolation for those with travel plans now ‘up in the air’. Their apology statement promised to ‘have staff back at the counters soon’, but no information regarding refunds has been made public for these dumbfounded passengers.

“Dear Guests: Mango Airlines would like to apologise for this morning’s flight interruptions and delays. We are currently working on a solution and will be back at the counters and hope to clear the delays as soon as possible. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused.”

Flights have been grounded ‘ahead of schedule

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Mango Airlines, William Ndlovu sent a memo out last week. He explained they are all but certain to go into business rescue – following the same path traversed by the national carrier, SAA. It seems that, for the foreseeable future, there’ll be no orange marvels in the skies of South Africa.
