PSL transfer news: Bafana Bafana goalkeeper joins Cape Town City

Cape Town City have found Peter Leeuwenburgh’s replacement in the form of an experienced Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

Darren Keet has finally put pen to paper with Cape Town City after weeks of speculation on whether or not he would be joining the Mother City-based club.

City took to their social media platforms to announce the signing of Keet, who needs no introduction to South African football.

In a statement released on Monday morning, City confirmed that Keet signed a three-year deal with them.

Speaking after his unveiling as a Citizen, Keet said he was excited to be back in the city he was born and bred in but never got to play professional football in.

“I’m just excited to join the club,” Keet told the club’s media department.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be a great next couple of years for me. I’m from Cape Town, I grew up in Cape Town, and I’ve only played my professional football outside of Cape Town.

“So, I’m excited to be back and to be part of Cape Town again, and a team like Cape Town City,” said Keet.

Keet was most recently on the books of Cape Umoya United; the team he joined on a short-term deal after his move to Major League Soccer (MLS) fell through.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper spent four years between 2011 and 2016 in Belgium where he featured for Kortrijk.

Keet returned to the PSL in 2016 to join Bidvest Wits before going back to Belgium to sign for OH Heuven a year later.
