AmaZulu squash ‘fake news’ reports regarding Benni McCarthy’s exit rumours

AmaZulu have rubbished reports of a shock exit for coach Benni McCarthy, calling it ‘fake news’.

Rumours had circulating that McCarthy still had not returned to the country from Scotland for pre-season training with the reported start of the 2021/22 DDStv Premiership season just over three weeks away (on Saturday, 14 August).

However, Usuthu have clarified that he is in indeed back with the KwaZulu-Natal club.

“Usuthu would like to clarify any fake news regarding coach Benni McCarthy and Andre De Jong. Coach Benni McCarthy has returned to South Africa from his off-season break in Scotland,” a statement from the club read on social media.

“We would like to confirm that Sphesihle Maduna, has not been offloaded and is still part of the Usuthu family.”

McCarthy took over at the helm of AmaZulu in the early stages of last season as they club languished near the the foot of the log.

The former Bafana Bafana striker helped engineer a remarkable turnaround which resulted in the club finishing second in the standings behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

They runner-up finish booked AmaZulu a spot in next season’s CAF Champions League.

Meanwhile, the club are expected to unveil as many as 10 new signings in the coming days, according to chairperson Sandile Zungu.
