Mamelodi Sundowns told not to sign Thembinkosi Lorch
A former star has advised Mamelodi Sundowns not to sign Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch.
Lorch has been unsettled at Orlando Pirates for some time and appears set for a big move at the end of the season.
Don’t sign Lorch
While a move overseas is a possibility, the playmaker has also been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns or Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Erstwhile Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Charles Motlohi believes it would be a mistake to bring Lorch into the champions setup.
Motlohi simply believes that Lorch will not be able to reach the standard expected of a Mamelodi Sundowns player, when his recent lack of form and fitness is taken into account.
In Motlohi’s estimation, Kaizer Chiefs would be a better fit for Lorch, whom he believes will struggle to establish himself in a squad filled to the brim with midfield talents.
Mamelodi Sundowns don’t need players looking for a pension
Motlohi added that he believes Lorch will go the way of Kermit Erasmus, who hasn’t broken into the first team since moving to Chloorkop from Cape Town City.
“No, I don’t think they need him. Thembinkosi Lorch and Oupa Manyisa play the same style of football,” Motlohi told KickOff.com.

“And I also count the age – if he was 16 or 17-years-old, I would recommend he be signed, but the problem is when you bring someone in who is only coming for pension.
“Lorch is good but not for Sundowns. I think a move to [Kaizer] Chiefs might suit him better because, honestly speaking, Chiefs don’t have players at the moment.
“Just imagine how many players are playing in his position at Sundowns in the current squad – the likes of [Hlompho] Kekana can’t even get game time.
“I trusted [Kermit] Erasmus to do well at Sundowns but he is forever injured. But as for Lorch, no, I don’t rate him that much to play for us.”
