Mamelodi Sundowns latest | Another PSL record set by the Brazilians!

Mamelodi Sundowns may have successfully defended their league title but Wednesday’s match away to Bloemfontein Celtic saw them set a new PSL record.

The Brazilians recorded an easy 2-0 win over Phunya Sele Sele in the Free State, and in so doing, they have now become the first PSL team to go an entire season without losing away from home.

Sundowns had already set a new PSL recording by lifting the coveted trophy a record four times when they were declared champions over a week ago.

Now, in the 15 league matches that they played away this season, Sundowns recorded 10 wins and five draws.

Sundowns also kept nine clean sheets in those 15 away matches, scoring a whopping 24 goals while conceding just six in the process.

Currently on 64 points with one game to go, Sundowns collected 35 points on the road, meaning they have been better away than at home where they have collected 33 points from 14 league games.

They can still better that tally with win a home win over Cape Town City this coming Saturday – they would have collected 36 points at home.

Furthermore, Sundowns only failed to score in three of their 15 away matches in the league, meaning they found the back of the net in each of the other 12 league matches.

Sundowns’ biggest win away from home came when they beat Orlando Pirates 3-0 at the Orlando Stadium on 2 May 2021.
