SuperSport United homecoming for Mamelodi Sundowns’ George Maluleka?
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka continues to be linked with a move away from Chloorkop, with former club SuperSport United the latest to be linked to his services.
Maluleka moved to the Pretoria-based outfit at the start of the current DStv Premiership campaign, following his controversial exit from Kaizer Chiefs. Maluleka started raising doubts about his Chiefs future after stalling on their contract renewal offer, only for the Soweto giants to find out that he had already concluded a pre-contract agreement with rivals Sundowns for the next season.
Maluleka left Chiefs in acrimonious circumstances
That revelation soon saw Chiefs making the decision to release Maluleka, and not included the box-to-box midfielder in their squad for the bio-bubble. Things have been far from smooth sailing for him since joining Sundowns, however, finding it very hard to crack the team’s midfield, behind the likes of Andile Jali, Rivaldo Coetzee, Sphelele Mkhulise and even Lebohang Maboe in a congested pecking order in the clubs middle of the park.
He has fallen down the pecking order
That increased competition has since him make just 14 starts in all competitions this season, a season where even the likes of Bafana Bafana internationals Tiyani Mabunda and veteran club captain Hlompho Kekana have found themselves on the peripheries. That has led to speculation surrounding Maluleka’s future at Sundowns he has now been linked with either a loan or permanent move to Supersport
A source speaking to The Citizen continued to add further fuel to the fire.
“He is likely to be released. They have an overload of players in the position he plays in with a few other younger players set to be brought in. It is currently bossed by Rivaldo Coetzee and Andile Jali and the likes of Hlompho (Kekana) are struggling for game time.
“He (Maluleka) is too far behind in the pecking order and they don’t see a need to keep him because they are unlikely to use him in future, and they want to build their own team with fresh faces and younger players,” said a source.

Maluleka spent just a single season at SuperSport joining from the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town. He made 27 appearances for the club scoring two goals in the process.
Could he be on his way back?
