Here’s how to get a permit for travel to or from Gauteng

The renewed lockdown regulations prohibit leisure travel between Gauteng – now reported to be the epicenter of Covid-19 infections  – and other provinces in South Africa. Under Alert Level 4, travel for recreational or leisure purposes is not permitted to and from Gauteng but South Africans may, however, still travel to or from Gauteng for a number of other reasons.

TRAVEL PERMITTED FOR THESE PURPOSES

Interprovincial movement between Gauteng and other parts of the country is permitted for the following reasons :

  • Business and commercial purposes;
  • Attending a funeral;
  • Taking care of a family member.

TRAVEL PERMITS NOW REQUIRED

Travelling for the abovementioned purposes is permitted under current lockdown restrictions but travellers are required to produce travel permits in order to be able to move into and out of Gauteng.  FlySafair has eased the burden of locating travel permits for travellers who need to obtain these in order to make trips to and from Gauteng. The permits are now available on FlySafair’s website.

South Africans who need to travel between Gauteng and other parts of the country are required to produce a travel permit applicable to their situations.  All travel permits with the exception of Business Travel Permits will need to be signed at a Magistrate’s Court or a Police Station before they can be used to travel.

OTHER REASONS

If anyone needs to travel to or from Gauteng for any other reason apart from the three permitted ones it may be possible to obtain an Affidavit at a Magistrate’s Court or Police Station stating the reason for travel.
