Al Ahly’s title push dented with Egypt Premier League stalemate

Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly failed to move within a point of Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek after playing out to a 1-1 draw against El Gouna on Friday.

Al Ahly started the match four points behind log leaders Zamalek and began the clash in fine form.

However they weren’t able to find an opener despite enjoying the vast majority of possession.

The match was deadlocked at 0-0 at half-time.

However, Al Ahly’s substitutions and fresh legs helped fashion the first goal after 57 minutes when Taher Mohamed scored the opener from a ball by Akram Tawfik.

Al Ahly were made to pay for squandering several opportunities with just four minutes to go when Mohamed Nagieb headed home the equaliser to deny Pitso Mosimane’s men the full three points.

Al Ahly now trail Zamalek by three points, but do have two matches in hand.

Al Ahly will next be in action away to 11th-placed Ghazi El Mahalla on Monday, 3 May at 21:30 SA time.
