Kaizer Chiefs respond to ‘leaked’ targets: ‘There’s work happening’

Kaizer Chiefs have responded to reports that they could sign at least 13 players ahead of the start of the 2021-22 season.

According to Chiefs spokesperson, Vina Maphosa, chairman Kaizer Motaung will outline the club’s plans at the end of the current campaign in preparation for the upcoming one.

Maphosa, however, confirmed that ‘there is work happening in the background’ although he cited that this is a normal practice for Chiefs.

Furthermore, Maphosa, on behalf of Chiefs, reduced the list of 13 players doing the rounds in the media to mere ‘speculation’.

“The chairman (Kaizer Motaung) prefers to outline plans when the season has ended,” Maphosa told TimesLIVE.

“I can confirm there is work happening in the background and this is part of a normal process because we always start preparations for the next season in advance.”

“What is in circulation is speculation,” he added.

Among the players reportedly identified as targets by Chiefs are Bradley Grobler and Sipho Mbule of SuperSport United and Njabulo Ngcobo of Swallows FC.

Amakhosi have struck verbal agreements with both Phathutshedzo Nange and S’fiso Hlanti for them to come to Naturena in the new season.

The duo could not be signed this season as Chiefs were serving a two-window transfer ban.

Both Nange and Hlanti had to find new clubs for the current season, and they joined Stellenbosch FC and Swallows respectively.
