Suspect arrested in fatal gang-related shooting of 15-year-old girl in Grassy Park
The Office of the Provincial Commissioner Western Cape confirmed on Saturday 27 February that a 24-year-old suspect was charged with murder after claiming the life of a 15-year-old teenager on Friday evening.

15-year-old teen killed in Grassy Park
Colonel Andrè Traut said in a statement that the incident took place on 26 February at approximately 19:45 in Eland Avenue Lotus River “where a 15-year-old girl was shot and killed”.
The case is under investigation by Grassy Park police. Colonel Traut explained:
“According to reports, the deceased was sitting in front of a house in the street when suspects started shooting randomly. We suspect that she was caught in the crossfire”.
The investigators’ swift response “led to the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect who is scheduled to make a court appearance in Wynberg on Monday, 1 March 2021 on a charge of murder”.

Anti-gang unit arrests suspect in Gqeberha
In a separate incident, Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 29-year-old suspect and recovered two firearms at a house in Nkadimeng Street in Kwadwesi, Gqeberha [formerly Port Elizabeth].
The arrest took place during the early hours of this morning, 27 February 2021. Colonel Priscilla Naidu said at approximately 01:05, “members acted on information received”. She added:
“Upon entering the property, they noticed a male attempting to flee through a bathroom window. The quick action displayed by the members forced the male to go back into the house.”
The garage door was forced opened and “the suspect was caught hiding a 9mm firearm in his bedroom and a 7.65 pistol in the ceiling”. According to Colonel Naidu, the serial numbers of both firearms were filed off.
The suspect was detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1 March 2021.
