Benedict Vilakazi questions Bernard Parker’s contribution to Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates legend Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi is surprised Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Bernard Parker finished Saturday’s match against SuperSport United.

Amakhosi surrendered a 1-0 lead to eventually draw 1-1 with Matsatsantsa with Parker playing the entire 90 minutes in central midfield.

And Vilakazi doesn’t think the former South Africa international had a reason to be on the field of play as he was offering nothing to Chiefs both defensively and offensively.

“I don’t know why Parker was in the field of play… I don’t know,” Vilakazi told iDiskiTV.

“Maybe coach Gavin Hunt has got good reasons why Parker was in the field of play because I couldn’t see him when the team was attacking and I couldn’t see him even when the team was defending but he played the entire 90 minutes.

The retired diminutive midfielder is also baffled that certain players aren’t given the same chance as Parker, whom he said did nothing for Kaizer Chiefs on the day.

“And such things are worrying in the sense that you ask yourself why certain players can’t also be given a chance like Parker who has been given a chance,” he added.

As an amateur coach, Vilakazi said a player only deserves to be on the pitch if they can offer something either in defence or attack.

“It disturbs me because there are two things I’d expect from a player; it’s either you give something when we defend or you give something when we attack,” he continued.

“If you can’t give us anything from these two then there is no need to be in the field of play.

“So, I don’t know why Parker was in the field of play because I didn’t see him creating anything and I didn’t see him defending anything,” concluded Vilakazi.
