Orlando Pirates given green light by PITSO MOSIMANE!
Orlando Pirates have been backed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup by former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Pitso Mosimane.
The current Al Ahly coach believes his fellow South African side stand a good chance of finishing in the top two of their group following the group stages draw.
Orlando Pirates have been drawn alongside Algeria’s Saoura and Libya’s Al Ittihad while the third and final team will be the winner in the play-off match between JS Kabylie and Royal Leopards.
I fancy Orlando Pirates – Pitso Mosimane
“It’s a very tricky one this one because Algerian teams and Libyan teams always cancel each other,” Mosimane said following the draw.
“I fancy the Buccaneers, Orlando Pirates, to come out of the group, but you know the story with JS Kabylie, they are also a very strong team. Pirates looks good, and I think they will go to the quarter-finals, and maybe JS Kabylie too.
“I don’t know about Saoura but Al Ittihad are always in this tournament and the Champions League, so you never know. But I fancy Orlando Pirates, my home country team.”

“It’s a game of football, we have to play against each other. I think it was the same when I was with Mamelodi Sundowns before, I played Wydad about eight times even with Zamalek when I was at Sundowns I played them about six times.” Mosimane added.
“So you will always meet these big teams in the group or in the knockout phases. Yes, they are a good team, interesting games, its Champions League. No it is not about Mamelodi Sundowns, it’s about the whole group and whoever is in the group.

“If we find Sundowns, we play them, if we find Zamalek, we play them. It doesn’t matter who you find in the group, the group is the group. And yes, why not? It will be good to go home to South Africa and see the country again.”
Orlando Pirates are scheduled to begin their CAF Confederation Cup group stage journey on 13 February 2021 when they host JS Saoura at the Orlando stadium.
