Tshwane EMS spokesperson Charles Mabaso told The South African that firefighters arrived on the scene to find a house of about 500 to 600 square meters on fire.
“They initiated a fire attack from the garage, containing from further spread into the entire house,” said Mabaso.
“The fire damage included four vehicles that were in the garage, the kitchen and a small room adjacent to the house. Parts of the house suffered smoke damage. The owner of the house sustained minor burns to the hands and was treated on the scene,” he added.
According to the Eldoraigne owner, the generator was running because of load shedding when the fire broke out, however, the exact cause of the fire remains a subject of investigation. Mabuso said the four vehicles that were gutted included a Ford Ranger, a VW Polo, Nissan NP200 and a Honda Jazz.
COMMUNITY MEMBERS TRYING TO CONTROL THE FIRE
Netcare 911 National spokesperson Shawn Herbst received information about the Eldoraigne scene from one of his contacts. He was told that when emergency services arrived, smoke was billowing out between the roof tiles.
“The garage and outside car were still actively burning with community members using hose pipes to try and control the fire,” Herbst communicated.
On the scene, emergency services personnel saw the owner of the house walking to the back of the house through the garden.
“I followed him and found three more people standing at the back with three dogs, I then asked them (as well as the owner) to move to the front of the house with me so that we can keep a precise headcount of the people entering the scene. They complied and brought their dogs with them.”
The EMS respondent on the scene said the owner, as well as, the other three people (his wife, son and son-in-law) all refused treatment initially.
“After the fire engine arrived the owner came to us asking to treat his right hand which he had burned at some point during the incident”.
