R350 Grant: Here’s the SASSA payment schedule for December 2020
SASSA has confirmed the major payment dates for social grants in December. This will also mark the penultimate handout of the R350 Grant, which was created earlier this year to support millions during the pandemic.
When will the R350 Grant be paid out?
However, the government have made it clear that SRD payments cannot continue for ever. They are set to expire in January 2021, and although the introduction of a Basic Income Grant is likely to replace the R350 Grant, there could be a gap between the supply of both funds. All other SASSA handouts will continue as normal.
On Thursday, the payment schedule for December was published. Grants for the elderly will go online first, and that will be followed by disability payments a day later. After that, all other funds are made availble – including the R350 Grant.
SASSA payment schedule for December 2020
- Tuesday 1 December: Older Person’s Grants made available, as are any other payments these recipients are entitled to.
- Wednesday 2 December: Disability Grants made available, as are any other payments these recipients are entitled to.
- Thursday 3 December: All other SASSA payouts are made available, including the R350 grant. Not every recipient will get their SRD payments on Thursday, and due to the way this system functions, some applicants will have to wait a little longer.

R350 Grant and others: Caregiver ‘top-up’ won’t come back
Meanwhile, SASSA has been forced to fight ‘fake news’ this week, after a false social media post claimed that the agency was reintroducing the R500 top-up for caregivers. The scheme was discontinued earlier this year, and it won’t be returning.
Please note that the below information is FALSE and does NOT come from SASSA. All the top up amounts for the social grants (Old Age, Disability, War Veterans,Child Support,Foster Child & Care Dependency) have come to an end. #SASSACARES @The_DSD @GCISMedia @GovernmentZA @nda_rsa pic.twitter.com/KctANu7iaO
