Big Black Friday savings: Three must-see national parks

“SANParks is excited to offer a discount on online bookings for accommodation, camping, trails and activities within our stable,” acting head of communications Reynold Thakhuli said.

“The discount will apply to all online bookings made for accommodation, camping, trails and activities, for stays from 27 January to 18 March 2021, including weekends.”

Terms and conditions apply

The discount will only be applied to bookings made on Friday 27 November through the booking platforms link made available on the SANParks website.

The promotion works on a first come, first served basis, with discount bookings subject to availability. The discount does not include food or entry fees to parks.

There will also be a 1% Community Levy that will be added to the reservation costs. The park that straddles the border of Botswana and South Africa, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, is not included in the Black Friday festivities.

Our pick of SANParks must-see destinations

Kruger National Park, Limpopo

Iconic home to South Africa’s Big 5, this magnificent — and massive — park straddles two South African provinces, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Activities include guided walks, game drives, mountain biking and many others.

South Africa’s largest park is fantastic for a family getaway and an absolute bucket-list item for South Africans.

Addo Elephant Park, Eastern Cape

Addo is one of South Africa’s most-loved national parks. It has grown tremendously in recent years and offers the chance to get up close with the gentle giant, the African elephant.

Unbeknown to many, the park is also home to South Africa’s longest stretch of untouched sand dunes. The 80km stretch also includes opportunities to go sand-boarding and -sledding.

Activities such as ziplining, horseback riding, hiking and cruising on the Sundays river are sure to make any visit worthwhile.

Augrabies Falls National Park, Northern Cape

About 120km from Upington you will find this park, which stretches over the Orange River.

One of the big, alluring attractions of this park is its famous waterfall. With six decks to view this natural wonder you won’t miss a photo opportunity!

The park also has a gorge below the falls, and the geological variety of rocks, and their characteristic shapes and colours, is unmatched.

Take a hike, go on a guided night drive, and enjoy the fresh air and clear skies here which are perfect for stargazing too.
