Billie Eilish metamorphoses for the new 007 theme song video

That’s when she isn’t belting out incredible bass-thumping, glitchy experimental pop jams. But for her debut as the voice behind the new James Bond theme song’s video for No Time to Die, she transforms herself into an unusual guise — that of a classic, understated torch singer.

Eilish released her theme song for the latest film in the 007 franchise, No Time to Die, which was quite different from her normal repertoire of tunes, and pleasantly so.

She moved away from the bass-heavy pop songs she is renowned for and slipped into a hauntingly beautiful, and rather unsettling ballad that hints the plot will centre around the secret agent’s betrayal.

Eilish’s skyrocketing Rise to Fame

The 18-year-old Grammy winner’s reign in the music world began in 2015 when she uploaded the song Ocean Eyes to SoundCloud, which went viral and was subsequently released by the Interscope Records subsidiary Darkroom.

She released her first album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? in 2019, which topped the Billboard 200 charts and became the best-performing album of 2019 in the United States.

Billy Eilish’s accolades include five Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, three MTV Video Music Awards, and one Brit Award.

Her Grammy awards include Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year – all in 2019 — and she is the youngest person and second person ever to win the four main Grammy categories. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Eilish is the 23rd biggest artist of the digital singles era, selling 37.5 million singles in the US alone.

Her reign continues and she has now become the youngest artist to ever write and perform a James Bond movie theme. She released the song she wrote and recorded for No Time to Die, the 25th film in the 007 franchise in February this year, and 10 months after the Bond track’s initial release, the music video for the song of the same name went online on Thursday.

Elegance and Grace Shine Through

In the video, Eilish stays with her style change and takes on the role of a modern-day torch singer, playing out the emotion in the song’s lyrics with intense gazes to the camera and natural, gently pained facial expressions. Shot in black-and-white, the video features a beautiful, toned-down Eilish clutching a retro mic with perfectly manicured clawed nails and effortlessly shines in a timeless, classical way.

While the video is less ambitious than some of her other releases, the simplicity of the video and Eilish’s poised grace and her subtle crooning is as refreshing as her transformation.
