Khumontle Mokgosi: Body of female teacher, 25, discovered in North West
The body of a 25-year-old teacher, identified as Khumontle Mokgosi, was found in her place of residence in Magong Village near Mogwase in the North West on Monday 29 June.
Provincial Commissioner of North West Lieutenant General Sello Kwena expressed his shock about the alleged killing of Khumontle Mokgosi.
KHUMONTLE MOKGOSI SUSPECTED OF BEING STRANGLED
According to information at the police’s disposal, neighbours and members of the School Governing Body (SGB) conducted a search after the young teacher failed to report for duty.
Khumontle Mokgosi’s lifeless body was found with her hands and feet tied up. It is suspected that she was strangled.
“As a result, a case of murder was opened. An investigation into the matter is currently underway and no arrest has been effected at this stage,” said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
Kwena said it’s disturbing that the life of a young teacher was brought to an abrupt end by merciless criminal/s amid calls by all sectors of society for gender-based violence to cease. Kwena said police are working hard to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
Over 200 protesters conducted a demonstration outside Parliament on Tuesday against gender-based violence. According to GroundUp, police requested that the protesters leave due to it being an illegal gathering but no one budged. Instead, protesters sat on the ground and said they would not leave until someone from government collected their memorandum.
Police request anyone who may have information about the incident to contact the Investigating Officer Sergeant Justice Ramosoeu on 083-616-0995. Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated via MySAPS App or by calling the Crime Stop number: 0860-010-111.
MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDER IN SEPARATE INCIDENT
In a separate incident, Hartbeespoortdam police in the North West arrested a 47-year-old suspect for murder on Monday 29 June — the same day the body of Khumontle Mokgosi was discovered.
The suspect was arrested shortly after an incident which occurred at a resort in Kosmos Hartbeespoortdam at about 18:00.
“It is alleged, that the victim, Tebatjo Samuel Monyuku, 31, was on duty as a security guard at the resort when an argument ensued between him and the suspect,” said Mokgwabone.
“The latter hit and drove over the victim with his Isuzu bakkie. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene,” added Mokgwabone.
The suspect is expected appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court today on Wednesday 1 July.
