Farm attack foiled after suspect shot dead in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga farm attack foiled

These rural crimes have been the intense focus of a Parliamentary debate this week, with both the DA and the FF Plus claiming that more needs to be done to prevent farm attacks. The parties have suggested interventions such as the creation of a specialised unit to respond to these incidents, as well as a full-scale investigation into their causes.

Here’s what we know about the unsuccessful Mpumalanga farm attack so far:

  • Multiple services responded to a farm attack in Sundra, Mpumalanga late on Tuesday evening.
  • Shots were fired at the property shortly after the police were alerted to the situation.
  • One suspect was arrested at the scene, but others in the gang were able to escape.
  • Both a golden Renault and a VW Golf were seeing fleeing onto the N12 near Sundra.
  • The husband and wife who were targeted in this farm attack are both unharmed, and neither required hospital treatment.

Harrismith farmer ‘left in a coma’

However, another incident in Harrismith came to a different conclusion overnight. A man has been left in a coma after four assailants exacted a brutal round of violence on a married couple in Harrismith, Free State. The male victim has, reportedly, been left in a coma. Details remain sketchy on this incident, but it’s understood that the wife has not been seriously harmed.
