Super moist and delicious: Chocolate Cake squares recipe

Buttermilk is such a versatile ingredient. It can be used in savoury dishes as well as the secret ingredient to making super moist cakes.

This buttermilk chocolate squares recipe with chocolate icing is one of my favourite recipes.

    This buttermilk chocolate squares recipe with chocolate icing is one of my favourite recipes.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup butter

    • 1 cup water

    • 3/4 cup sugar

    • 4 tablespoons cocoa

    • 2 cups flour

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    • 1 teaspoon salt

    • 1/2 cup buttermilk

    • 2 eggs

    • INGREDIENTS – ICING
    • 8 tablespoons butter

    • 6 tablespoons icing sugar

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

    Method

    • Preheat oven to 200°C.
    • In a saucepan, add butter, water, sugar and cocoa. Bring to a boil.
    • In a mixing bowl whisk eggs and butter milk.
    • Separately, mix flour, baking powder, salt.
    • Alternatively mix in flour mixture and cocoa mixture.
    • Bake for 25 minutes.
    • METHOD – ICING
    • For icing mix butter, icing sugar, cocoa and vanilla essence.
    • After the cake has cooked, add icing.
