More snow coming to SA: Here’s where the flakes will fall this week
For those of you hoping to see a winter wonderland this week, we’ve got some good news: Snow is coming to three provinces over the next 48-72 hours, as the latest cold front to sweep through South Africa brings icy conditions, a heap of rain and some pretty formidable gusts.
Snow forecast for South Africa – who’s in for a flurry?
The weather is set to take a turn for the worse on Tuesday before temperatures then plummet later on Wednesday. Higher peaks and mountainous regions are likely to receive modest flurries in the Capes of Mzansi.
The SA Weather Service (Saws) state that our Northern, Western and Eastern Cape provinces are forecast to receive between 1 – 10cm of snow between now and Thursday:
“An intense cold front is expected over the western parts of the Northern and Western Cape from Wednesday. The public and small stock farmers are advised that snow, strong to gale-force winds, flooding, rough seas and very cold conditions can be expected.”
“Snow is expected on the high ground of the Western Cape and southern high ground of the Northern Cape from Wednesday evening, spreading to the Eastern Cape high ground on Thursday.”

Weather forecast for Wednesday 10 June
This will be the third major snowfall event of the calendar year, as winter starts to properly take its toll on the country. Previously, the western and central regions of the country were hit by the white stuff, but this week looks like it could top the lot. You better wrap up warm if you see the grey clouds gathering this week…
