A large group of Atlantis residents have picketed outside the community’s police station, calling for the axing of a high-ranking officer.
Atlantis residents call for action against top cop
According to eNCA reporter, Monique Mortlock, two female staff members of the Atlantis police station have come forth with allegations that the high-ranking officer in question has persistently made unwanted sexual advances towards them for two years.
At this time, the Atlantis police station has acknowledged that there are two inquest dockets that are being probed by internal affairs, linking the accused cop to sexual harassment.
However, the community is not satisfied with the manner in which the police have disciplined the accused officer. Large groups of Atlantis residents gathered outside the station, some of them calling for the axing of the accused officer, pending the outcome of the investigation.
At the picket, there was also a faction of community members who were there to stand in solidarity with the accused officer, claiming that he has been a beacon in fighting crime and nabbing illegal taverns.

Police station accepts residents’ memorandum of demands
One of the accusers claims that the officer would overreach his access to her contact information and send her crude text messages. He would allegedly go as far as requesting nude pictures and sexual favours.
She further claimed that he had a habit of exercising his power and control over her by allegedly insulting her infront of her colleagues.
The accusers have received the backing of the Atlantis community and the police station has been pressured to act decisively on the officer’s disciplinary process.
On Thursday, residents handed over a memorandum of demands to the station’s head of legal services. It is not known, at this time, what the contents of the memorandum are.
