DA’s McGluwa blasts ‘out of touch’ Ndlozi, calls EFF ‘politics of hate’
Joe McGluwa, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) North West Provincial Leader, has hit back at the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and its national spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.
While most of South Africa has been overcome by a wave of positive emotion emanating from the Springboks’ historical Rugby World Cup victory, the country’s leading political provocateurs, the EFF, have rained on the momentous parade.
Mbuyiseni Ndlozi cops criticism for Springbok rant
Ndlozi, in particular, has dismissed the occasion as a ‘white-dominated’ pageant which created aimed to create a ‘false sense of unity’ across racial lines.Ndlozi was, understandably, raked over the coals for his comments, which have been seen by many to be divisive and derogatory. The EFF’s national spokesperson has since endured the wrath of an entire nation, with the public and political players condemning Ndlozi’s acrimonious rhetoric.
Despite some EFF members celebrating the Springboks’ victory, the party’s leadership structures, including Commander in Chief, Julius Malema, have supported Ndlozi’s views. Even the party’s chairperson, Dali Mpofu, jumped into the fray, saying:
“We must not pretend the history and the role of the Springboks in cementing apartheid racism doesn’t exist.
As in 1995 the realities of racism & land dispossession cannot be airbrushed with fake unity & selective patriotism!”
Joe McGluwa hits back at Ndlozi’s ‘politics of hate’
On Sunday, the official opposition’s McGluwa added to the wholesale denunciation by penning an open letter to Ndlozi. McGluwa described Ndlozi as being ‘fickle’, ‘out of touch’ and ‘driven by hate’. The DA’s North West Provincial Leader said:“Your recent and persistent rage against the positive sentiments amongst ordinary South Africans following the Sprinboks Rugby World Cup win shows how out of touch you are with the sentiment amongst the population at large.
It is now self evident that any display of unity amongst our diverse society upsets you.
You are so insular in this negative madness against unity in South Africa. Even EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters] supporters were seen to celebrate the world cup win.
In fact, the attitude of ordinary EFF supporters we have encountered on the streets of South Africa have been such that we cannot reconcile it with the hatred and reckless attitude of its leadership.
Even fellow EFF MP Makoti Sibongile Khawula danced on the victory of the Boks in Parliament. Will uMam’ Khawula now be fired like so many EFF MPs over the last 5 years for daring to question the EFF’s dictatorship?”
Springboks in Parliament
Interestingly, the Springboks will be visiting Parliament on Monday morning, as part of their Cape Town Victory Parade. Members of Parliament already celebrated the victory in the National Assembly, much to the irritation of EFF representatives, and are likely to welcome the Springboks with open arms.It is unclear whether Ndlozi will be present during the Springboks’ parliamentary visit.
