According to Soccer Laduma, Kearyn Baccus, 30, is naturally understood to be concerned over his lack of game-time at the club since coach Stuart Baxter’s arrival.

Baccus, who was born in Durban but holds an Australian citizenship, is yet to be selected Kaizer Chiefs this season and the arrival of a host of new players as well as an expectation to pick younger players have made it increasingly harder for him to break into the starting XI.

Baxter has preferred a two-man midfield of Cole Alexander and Phathutshedzo Nange while more recently Keagan Dolly has played just ahead of them in the No 10 role supporting strikers Khama Billiat and Samir Nurkovic.

Fans have also called for youngster Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to be restored to the team.

While it’s true Baxter’s selections have exactly produced the sort of results supporters of the Soweto giants will have wanted – and his own job may well be in jeopardy – it’s still difficult to see where Baccus fits in.

This season is Baccus’ final one at Kaizer Chiefs having signed a three-year contract in mid-2019 with indications his future will shortly be assessed.

He will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club in January 2022 – six months before his contract expires on 30 June, 2022.
