PSL transfer news: Eight top signings in the January window

The Januaury transfer window is done and dusted, meaning the clubs who could not conclude their business before deadline day have no choice but to look at free agents.

There are a few of those lingering about, with the likes of Musa Nyatama, who recently parted ways with Orlando Pirates.

Clubs such as Sundowns were expected to be highly active during the last month, while Baroka were the busiest out of the lot, even recruiting players from as far afield as the United States.

It remains to be seen what the new recruits will bring to their respective clubs, but we take a look at players who could prove to be inspired signings in the remainder of the season.

Lorenzo Gordinho – Bidvest Wits

It had been clear from the onset that defender Lorenzo Gordinho would leave Kaizer Chiefs, possibly on a loan basis, but the player opted for a permanent move away.

Gordinho joined Bidvest Wits on a three-year contract, putting an end to a stay that spanned close to a decade at Naturena.

Mduduzi Mdantsane – Cape Town City

Mduduzi Mdantsane’s move from Baroka too Cape Town City happened before the January transfer window was declared open.

This is after the player was released by Bakgakga, making him a free agent, with the Citizens then pouncing. The former Baroka skipper has made three appearances for his new club.

Nkanyiso Zungu – Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates made a deadline-day signing in the form of Nkanyiso Zungu, who joined from Stellenbosch FC.

The 24-year-old has previously been in the books of AmaZulu and Jomo Cosmos, and could be seen as a straight replacement for Musa Nyatama, whose replacement was announced soon after that of the new signing was revealed.

Another signing made prior to the official opening of the January window, the Zimbabwean international parted ways with AmaZulu in December, only to surface at the top-flight newcomers.

Karuru has already made four appearances for Stellenbosch, finding the net in his last outing.

Moses Waiswa – Supersport United

Supersport United have also added to their considerable squad, going for Ugandan rising star Moses Waiswa. At just 23, the attacking midfielder has earned 10 caps for his country and could prove a valuable acquisition for the Tshwane Giants.
