The two title contenders headed into their respective Tuesday encounters neck-on-neck at the top summit of the log.

However, for Al Ahly, the title race was no longer in their hands as Zamalek held a four-point lead going into the final two matches of the season.

This means Al Ahly were hoping for Zamalek to slip up while they couldn’t afford to drop not even a point in their remaining two matches.

But the opposite happened as Mosimane’s charges, despite putting up a real fight against El Gouna, could only collect a point away from home.

Al Ahly looked destined for a win after coming from behind to lead El Gouna 3-1 but there was drama late in the game as the home side scored twice, including a penalty deep into stoppage time to force a 3-3 draw.

Zamalek, on the other hand, cruised to a 2-0 win in their match against El-Entag El-Harby, and even if Al Ahly had beaten El Gouna, it was still not going to be enough for them to win the league title.

The final round of matches will be on Friday when Zamalek will be handed the trophy while Mosimane’s charges will be looking to finish the season on a high.
