Ngcobo man accused of raping 66-year-old ‘beaten to death’ by vigilantes

Another suspected vigilante killing has taken place in South Africa, after a 36-year-old male was accused of raping an elderly woman. Once the Ngcobo community got wind of the heinous act, they took the law into their own hands.

Vigilante killing rocks Ngcobo community

It’s understood that the incident took place shortly after a traditional ceremony had taken place near Gibeni on Friday. After large quantities of alcohol were consumed, a 66-year-old female went for a rest in a nearby home.

However, she was then allegedly targeted by the brother of the homeowner, who strangled the woman before sexually assaulting her. In a bizarre act of hubris, the police report that the suspect was also threatening to rape ANOTHER female community member, just before several other Ngcobo locals got hold of him.

Alleged rapist ‘beaten to death’ by neighborhood residents

Details still remain sketchy at this point, but we understand that the beating the purported rapist received was so severe, he passed away long before the authorities even knew about the violence. SAPS say they are frustrated that vigilantes decided to take the law into their own hands, and warned the public against committing such acts.

“A 36-year-old man was killed by the community after allegedly raping a 66-year-old woman and threatened to rape another female in the Gibeni location – Gubenxa A/A – in Ngcobo. It is alleged that the elderly woman attended a traditional ceremony in the locality and entered the suspect’s brother’s house to rest because she was drunk.

The victim was awoken by the suspect, who strangled and then raped her. As the victim was shouting out for help, the suspect was already threatening to rape another female at a nearby homestead. The suspect was confronted and assaulted by the community – and passed away due to the severity of his injuries.”
