Mother arrested after she shot and killed her 24-year-old son

Police are investigating a murder after a mother of Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape shot and killed her son on Wednesday afternoon. 

THE SON AND HIS SISTER HAD A FIGHT JUST BEFORE THE SHOOTING 

Police spokesperson Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said a 45-year-old mother fatally shot her son in Slovo Park informal Settlement, NU 6, Mdantsane on Wednesday at about 13:30.

“It is alleged that the 24-year-old son argued with his sister after she accused him of stealing her cellphone. 

Mzuku said the siblings fought, and the son assaulted his sister with a wheel spanner. 

The mother took her boyfriend’s firearm and fatally shot her son.

“Police are investigating murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.” 

Mzuku said the circumstances surrounding the incident forms part of the investigation.

The mother is due to appear in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated shooting, a 50-year-old man was shot several times and killed in his home in Gqeberha on Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge three unknown men visited a house in Stokwe Street, New Brighton.

Beetge said the three men arrived at the house at around 08:45, asking for the 50-year-old man, Mtunzi Kondile, is.

“After pointing them to his outside room and going back into the house, his sister heard several gunshots and saw the three suspects running out of the premises.”

Beetge said it was then discovered that Mtunzi was shot and wounded several times in his upper body.

Mtunzi passed away on the scene.

A murder case was opened at New Brighton police.
