Kaizer Chiefs vs TS Galaxy: Latest INJURY updates!
Kaizer Chiefs get their 2021/2022 DStv Premiership campaign underway this evening against TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium.
A victory for Kaizer Chiefs over the same opponents on the final day of last season saw the Glamour Boys sneak into the top eight. This time around however the both teams will be looking for a strong opening performance.
The Amakhosi have already been dumped out of the MTN8 courtesy of a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss against Mamelodi Sundowns meaning all focus will have to be on the league for them until the end of the year.
Take a look at which players could be returning for their clubs this afternoon and which players will be missing in action.
TS Galaxy vs Kaizer Chiefs: Starting lineups
Neither team has any suspensions heading into this evening’s encounter. Coach Owen Da Gama could hand as many as nine debuts this evening while Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has a number of injury concerns.
Striker Leonardo Castro and midfielder Dumisani Zuma will play no part in today’s proceedings for the Glamour Boys. The pair are nursing long-term injuries.
Lebogang Manyama may return to the Kaizer Chiefs starting lineup this afternoon while Keagan Dolly has also showed signs of improved fitness levels.
It’s not all doom and gloom – Baxter
“Again, I think there’s been more than I really thought we would get. Because at times against Pirates, in the first half a bit, but mostly in the second half, our movement around the box was better, our possession was better,” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter said.
“Not only on transitions but also in longer build-ups where we’ve got to pick our way through a bit. I thought against Sundowns we started poorly. I don’t think anybody was up to scratch. But then suddenly we kicked in and got back from 2-0 down, against Sundowns, and under a lot of pressure.
“Kaizer Chiefs could have folded, so that was pleasing. So I wouldn’t say we’re anywhere near where I want to be, but I would say that let’s say the seeds have started to give some sprouts, I’ve not seen them in beautiful trees yet.”
