Severe Weather Alerts

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS:

  1. Yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rain leading to localized flooding of susceptible formal/informal settlements or roads and minor vehicle accidents due to bad driving conditions is expected over the northeastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
  2. Orange level 5 warning for disruptive rain is expected in places along the Wild Coast and adjacent interior resulting in flooding of roads and settlements as well as traffic disruptions.
  3. Orange level 5 warning for snow is expected in places over the southern Drakensberg mountains resulting in loss of livestock, traffic disruptions and major passes closed.
  4. Yellow level 1 warning for disruptive snow is expected along the eastern parts of the Lesotho border in the Free State. Wet roads of snow melting can freeze again resulting in black ice Wednesday morning, on major and minor roads in the area, including the Van Reenen’s pass.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS:

  1. Nil

ADVISORIES:

  1. Wet, windy and cold conditions are expected in the eastern parts of the Free State as well as the high grounds of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-natal from late evening, which could lead to loss of livestock and crops.

Gauteng:

Temperature: Cloudy and cold with isolated showers, mainly in the morning.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Mpumalanga:

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool with afternoon isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be warm over the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

Temperature: Morning fog patches over the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the southeast.

North-West Province:

Temperature: Partly cloudy in the southeastern and eastern parts at first, otherwise fine and cool to cold, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the southeast.

Free State:

Temperature: Partly cloudy and cold, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the eastern parts and along Lesotho borders.

Northern Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise fine cool to cold but very cold over the southern high ground.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly.

Western Cape:

Temperature: Cloudy to partly cloudy and cold to cool with morning fog over the west coast and in places over the interior, becoming fine from the west by the afternoon.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to southeasterly north of Cape Agulhas, otherwise moderate to fresh westerly to southwesterly reaching strong east of Mossel Bay until the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Moderate.

Eastern Cape:

The Western half Temperature: Cool in places along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, becoming cloudy with isolated showers and rain in the southeast.

The Western half – Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south westerly.

The Eastern half Temperature: Cloudy and cold with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread along the coast and adjacent interior. Moderate snowfalls are expected over the northeastern high ground, where it will be very cold.

The Eastern half Wind: The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southwesterly.

Kwazulu-Natal:

Temperature: Cloudy and cool but cold to very cold in places in the west with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Wind: The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly becoming fresh to strong southwesterly from the south in the afternoon.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index: Low.
