Two killed when a Mustang convertible rolled down an embankment and burst into flames
Two people were killed and one critically injured when a Mustang convertible rolled down an embankment and burst into flames on the R71 on Friday.
The accident happened on Friday afternoon just outside Haenertsburg in the direction of Polokwane.
ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said paramedics arrived on the scene just after 4 pm.
“The local neighbourhood watch had managed to secure the scene before their arrival. Our ALS paramedic had to quickly extract a woman, believed to be in her 50s, from the burning Mustang convertible which had rolled down an embankment.”
The woman had unfortunately already succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead on arrival.
“A man, also believed to be in his 50s, was found ejected from the vehicle. He had also unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival.”
Cambell said a second woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found in a critical condition.
“The woman required Advanced Life Support interventions to stabilise her before she was transported to the Mankweng Hospital for further care.”
The Mopani district fire services were on scene, and the Traffic Department and the South African Police Services.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man was killed in a truck accident on Thursday afternoon on the N17 in Brakpan.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident happened around 12:40 on Thursday.
The man was killed when his light motor vehicle rear-ended a truck on the N17 eastbound near the Heidelburg offramp in Brakpan.
Meiring said paramedics came across the accident at 12h40 to find both the truck and light motor vehicle in the emergency lane.
“The body of a man in his 60s was found lying trapped inside the vehicle.”
He said medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous fatal injuries.
