Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates in new kit battle: Who wore it better?
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates both “unveiled” their new-look kit this week ahead of what promises to be a mouth-watering 2021/22 season.

To be fair, in the Glamour Boys’ case it was more a “leak” than an official unveiling.

After a troubled campaign last season for Amakhosi in particular, a new coach and a bunch of new signings has led to renewed optimism that the Naturena-based club could contend for the title this time around.
From an Orlando Pirates stand-point, a third-place finish last season was an acceptable outcome and they have once again booked their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup.

But it’s what the two sides will be wearing that has captured the imagination of the SA public in the last 24 hours.
They new jerseys also pit Nike (Kaizer Chiefs) against Adidas (Orlando Pirates).

According to a statement: “The Nike Kaizer Chiefs 21/22 home shirt is golden-yellow with black side panels and black v-collar.”
“The Nike Kaizer Chiefs 2021/22 away shirt brings a garish look. Predominantly black, it boasts a subtle dazzle-camo pattern, combined with a shattered graphic in golden-yellow. The collar, sleeve cuffs and all logos on the Nike Chiefs 2021/22 away shirt have the same yellow colour.”

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates’ media officer Thandi Merafe said via the Orlando Pirates official website:“Orlando Pirates is a unique team with a unique history in South African football.
“We wanted to keep the design of this season’s kit simple, but bold enough to reflect the expectation of the Club for the coming season, and that is to win. We want to give our players and supporters a sense of pride when they put on this season’s jersey.

The new kits for both sides will be worn for the first time in the Carling Black Label Cup on 1 August.
