Senzo Meyiwa’s mother says police ‘are lying’ about murder suspects

Nthombifuthi Meyiwa, the mother of slain footballer Senzo Meyiwa, has delivered an explosive interview with Newzroom Afrika – after five suspects were arrested in connection with this heinous crime.

Senzo Meyiwa latest news and updates

All of those apprehended yesterday are expected to appear in court on Tuesday. The official version of events is that Meyiwa was killed during a robbery gone wrong. However, this is disputed by AfriForum – and Nthombifuthi herself.

Advocate Gerrie Nel publicly stated that he believes a “hit” had taken place. But Mrs Meyiwa went even further. Reeling off a list of accusations on Monday evening, the grief-stricken parent stated:

  • The police are ‘lying about the identity of the killer’.
  • SAPS itself is divided into two factions, both of which are fighting each other and delaying this investigation.
  • Mrs. Meyiwa claims she is ‘scared’ of Kelly Khumalo, Senzo’s ex-girlfriend, who she has accused of ‘withholding information’.
  • She is also sceptical that the gun believed to have been used in the killing is the actual murder weapon.

Nthombifuthi Meyiwa: Senzo’s mother in emotional interview

The interview Nthombifuthi gave was heart-wrenching, if not eye-opening. But she’s still confident of securing a conviction:

“The police are already implicating an innocent person who is in prison and forced to tell lies. They’re making him claim to be Senzo’s killer because he is already convicted. It is lies to say the gun that killed him has been found. It is the people who were in the house on the night he died who must tell the truth. What they are doing is very painful.”

“Senzo, whereever you are, let your spirit speak for itself. You know who shot you. You know their name. We are tired of being taken for a ride because we have no money. Senzo’s child is not attending schoo. No-one is helping, no-one cares. Wake up from your grave and fight this battle, Senzo – the time has come.”

“The tears we are crying are nothing compared to the joy that is yet to come.”
