In the latest news, Chippa United boss Siviwe Mpengesi says he is targeting a “high profile” coach to lead his team in the 2021/22 season.

And “high profile” coaches don’t come any bigger than Gavin Hunt who is currently unemployed having been fired from the Kaizer Chiefs job shortly before the end of last season.

Chippa United, who maintained their top-flight status after surviving the drop in the recently completed – and highly controversial – promotion-relegation playoffs, parted ways with coach Lehlohonolo Seema immediately thereafter.

Seema, 41, who has previously coached Black Leopards and Bloemfontein Celtic, has joined Golden Arrows as successor to Mandla Ncikazi.

Mpengesi claims he has been inundated with applications for the no vacant head coach position less than 24 hours since announcing the exit of Seema.

“We have received a lot of applications, including a number of international coaches. We have short listed the number into 12,” Mpengesi told the Kickoff website.

“This time we are looking for a high-profile coach. We should be announcing the new coach next week.”

Gavin Hunt remains available, but whether he wishes to accept the challenge of the Chippa United job remains to be seen.

“Is Gavin Hunt available?” asked Mpengesi when questioned whether he would consider giving the job to the former Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United mentor.
