POLICE HAVE SINCE LAUNCHED A MANHUNT

Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said police received a report of an alleged murder and immediately went to attend the scene.

“On arrival, police found bodies of an elderly woman and a young girl with bullet wounds on their upper bodies.”

She furthermore said the suspects are unknown and are still at large.

“The motive behind this incident is not known at this stage, however a case of murder has been opened for investigation.”

Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla has expressed his shock at the brutal double murders.

“The brutal killing of women and children is unacceptable and remains one of the priorities of the South African Police Service.

“We want to assure the community that the police will not rest until those involved in this callous act are found.”

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits is requested to anonymously contact Mqanduli Police Station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

In an unrelated incident, police were still searching for five armed men who allegedly robbed two retails shops in the Duncan Village in East London on Monday.

Kinana said two retail stores in a shopping complex were robbed of cash and cell phones.

“It is alleged that the manager of one store and her assistant had just opened the door preparing to open the shop to customers when two armed suspects stormed into the shop.

The armed men ordered the two ladies at gunpoint to lead them into the office and open the cell phone-and-money safe for them.”

She said the victims complied, and the men took an undisclosed amount of cash and several cell phones.

“In the same complex, three more suspects robbed two cellphones from security guards.”
